MMA stars are some of the highest-paid combat sports athletes in the world. But it’s still rare to see an MMA athlete on the Forbes list of the highest-paid athletes. Conor McGregor is the only mega star from the UFC who was able to top the list. It seems like another Featherweight superstar wants to achieve the same feat after capturing the UFC Gold in the Featherweight division. Ilia Topuria clarified that he wants to top the Forbes list of highest-paid sportsmen on the planet.
The list is, as usual, dominated by some of the most prominent soccer athletes, including Cristiano Ronaldo, and some major boxers like Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
Ilia Topuria wants to become Forbes’s number-one
Featherweight champion of the world, Ilia Topuria, won the Featherweight crown of the UFC after an impressive victory over Alexander Volkanovski in the second round. After becoming a champion, Topuria has a new objective for the company. He revealed his intentions of becoming the highest-paid athlete in the world by 2025. Topuria said,
I have no doubt that in 2025 that I will be the highest paid athlete in the world.
Ilia Topuria clarified that he wants to earn more greens than any other sports star. It will be difficult to beat out the soccer and basketball stars as their contracts are worth a couple hundred million dollars yearly. Topuria is now slated to get pay-per-view points that every champion in the UFC is entitled to. The PPV points will surely take his earnings up a notch compared to before. Ilia Topuria is still looking for another opponent in the octagon.
The Georgian has called out Max Holloway in the past. A fight between Topuria and Holloway will be a sight to behold as the duo are two of the top Featherweights in the world. It will be interesting to see if Ilia can cross the two hundred and sixty million dollar mark shortly. Topuria must take a leaf out of Conor’s playbook and get involved in the business world if he wants to make big bucks.
