UFC on ESPN 52 was the last time when work saw Sean Brady throw punches in the octagon. Although he has not yet faced any opponent since then, the 31-year-old will return to action to face Gilbert Burns at UFC Apex later this coming September. However, before his much-awaited comeback, the American called out Ian Garry and raised concerns over the latter’s size.
Garry currently stands seventh in the welterweight P4P rankings, just ahead of Brady. However, the American feels the Irishman doesn’t really work on his body. While speaking to Luke Thomas on his YouTube Channel, Brady said,
“Ian and Ian… he’s not a huge one 70 pounder like California releases. You’re weight… you’re weighing in for like the next day, when you weigh back in he only got up to like 180 pounds like his last fight in California. So, we’re like I’m rehydrating to 192 193, show her… show her some of the other… some guys are getting up to 200. So, I feel like he doesn’t have that physicality that he needs at one 70.”
Sean Brady Claims UFC Didn’t Schedule His Bout Against Ian Garry
Garry’s last bout against Michae ‘Venom’ Page at UFC 303 did not enthrall Brady, and he wasn’t happy with Page’s skillsets, either. While questioning the Irishman’s legitimacy in challenging Rakhamonov, the 31-year-old’s words seem to indicate his will to face Garry.
The matchmakers at UFC 303 arranged for Garry to face Colby Covington. Interestingly, Brady revealed his manager, who also manages the Irishman, wasn’t able to set up the fight since the UFC did not let that happen. While speaking to the veteran MMA journalist Luke Thomas, the 31-year-old American said,
“And then eight weeks before the fight, he calls me and is like ‘Hey, Colby’s out’, and I was like ‘I’m in, make it happen’… Unfortunately, the UFC didn’t want it- Ian said yeah, but then the UFC didn’t want it; so I’ve been trying to chase down a lot of these guys for a while now.”
It seems Sean Brady wants Ian Garry in the UFC Octagon. The Irishman’s inability to take down Page, even after having Demian Maia by his side, ridiculed the 31-year-old American. But if fans will see a potential bout between Brady and Garry in the future still remains a question.
