Gilbert Burns has indicated that he wants to fight Kamaru Usman again. The former welterweight champion Usman has been on a two-fight losing streak, while Burns recently lost to Jack Della Madelana.
The two fought each other back in 2021, and Usman won their fight via a third-round knockout. On the night, Usman also defended his welterweight title by beating Burns.
Three years later, the dynamics of the welterweight division have changed, and Kamaru Usman is no longer the champion, while Gilbert Burns has fallen out of the top 5. And it looks like Burns is eager to fight Usman again.
During a recent interview, Burns revealed that he is willing to fight Usman again but does not feel like the latter would be open to it. He said:
“I don’t think [Kamaru] would do it, but I would love to do that fight. I think it’s a back in the top 5 fight for me, a rematch. For sure I’ll fight him. But Kamaru, he’s a very intelligent fighter, back then he was the guy. I think it would be an amazing fight, if I could pick that would be my pick for my next fight.”
Who did Kamaru Usman fight in his last fight?
After losing two fights to Leon Edwards, Kamaru Usman moved up to the middleweight division to take up a short-notice fight against Khamzat Chimaev. It is worth noting that it was a three-round fight, and Usman failed to start the fight correctly.

He slowly found momentum towards the end of the fight and started to get the better of Chimaev. However, it was too late, and Chimaev won the decision. It will be interesting to see if Usman returns to the welterweight division or stays in middleweight.
