Ilia Topuria acquired the UFC gold earlier this year after he spectacularly beat Alexander Volkanovski in the company. Topuria is currently one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the company.
He has called out Max Holloway several times after his win in UFC 300 at the BMF bout. Holloway defied the odds when he knocked the lights off Justin Gaethje in the final rounds and took home the BMF belt. As it turns out, Ilia Topuria has his eyes set on the BMF strap and wants to win it from Holloway.
Ilia Topuria expressed his desire to fight Max Holloway before the end of the year. It’ll be interesting to see if this fight ever comes to fruition.
Ilia Topuria wants to be the BMF
Ilia Topuria already beat former champion Alexander Volkanovski in the second round when he used a powerful combination. Topuria, since winning the belt, has been looking for another challenger in the division. Ilia called out Max Holloway several times in the past few weeks. In an interview, Ilia said,
Because he has that belt, I’m excited about that. That’s why I want him.
Ilia clarified that the Holloway fight excites him because he has the BMF belt. He believes that Holloway does not deserve the title fight against him as he believes that Alexander Volkanovski is much more deserving than him, given the amount of title defenses the Australian has. Topuria claimed he is not interested in taking on Max if the BMF belt is not in the picture.

Ilia Topuria has beaten almost every top contender in the company, barring Max Holloway in the Featherweight division. Topuria and Holloway in the octagon scrapping with each other will be an interesting sight. Ilia is quite an exciting fighter and versatile in all mixed martial arts areas. To beat Max Holloway, it’s going to take a lot more than just decent fighting skills. Topuria has not yet faced a fighter of Max’s caliber. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the near future in the Featherweight division.
