After retiring from fighting, Khabib Nurmagomedov spent time as a coach, guiding his protege Islam Makhachev to the UFC lightweight championship in 2022. Khabib was recently seen in Makhachev’s corner at UFC 302, supporting him in his title fight defense against Dustin Poirier.
However, shortly after UFC 302, Khabib shared an Instagram post expressing his desire to return to active competition. He noted that while his role has shifted towards sharing knowledge and coaching the younger generation, he still feels the urge to compete against them himself.
In an Instagram caption, he wrote, “Over time, the training schedule has changed. First, I come and share knowledge, but in the end, I still want to compete with the young ones.”
