Islam Makhachev is the current crown holder in the Lightweight division of the UFC. Makhachev is set to fight against Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 302 in Newark, New Jersey. Makhachev has defended his belt two times now. Both times were against former Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Islam Makhachev was spotted making a heavy claim against his future opponent, Poirier.
Dustin Poirier is a heavy underdog against Islam but is confident he can pull off a massive upset.
Islam Makhachev on Dustin Poirier’s primary weapon
Islam Makhachev is currently in camp to prepare for his fight against Poirier. Makahchev is the heavy favorite going into the battle for his third title defense. Islam joined hands with Daniel Cormier, his former teammate, for an interview, where they talked about everything about the fight. Islam made some heavy claims against Dustin Poirier and his go-to weapon, the guillotine choke. Islam said,
Okay. I don’t respect his guillotine.
Islam Makhachev made it clear that he does not respect Dustin’s guillotine, which he has used many times inside the octagon. Poirier even tried to choke out his last opponent, Benoit St-Denis, via guillotine before knocking him out with punches. Poirier has used his guillotine against guys like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dan Hooker. Poirier never found success with this one particular choke.
Dustin Poirier has yet to reply to Islam’s claim. He previously claimed that if he submits Islam via guillotine choke, he will etch a bronze statue in front of his house in a guillotine position. Poirier must work on his takedown defense to win the fight against Islam Makhachev and become the company’s champion
