Zimbabwean mixed martial artist Themba Gorimbo is well-known. He goes by Themba T. Lawrence Gorimbo in real life. In less than a year, Themba Gorimbo intends to accomplish what very few people have ever done in UFC history: go from unranked to champion.
Despite only having three fights and not being considered a championship contender in the division, the UFC welterweight sees himself competing for and capturing the UFC belt in 2024.
Gorimbo’s Story With Dwayne Johnson
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson surprised Themba Gorimbo by paying him a surprise visit a few months after the boxer’s inspirational first-round UFC victory over Takashi Sato. Later, Johnson bought the fighter a house. Gorimbo’s story remarkably paralleled Johnson’s journey to success as a fighter and, more recently, as an actor, forced Johnson to meet him.
After Gorimbo’s first triumph, he disclosed that all he had in his bank account was $7. This revelation struck a chord with Johnson, so much that he crept up on Gorimbo during an interview at a training facility. With a beaming expression, Gorimbo thanked Johnson as they shared an embrace.
UFC Vegas 92 Brings Ramiz Brahimaj vs Themba Gorimbo
This weekend at UFC Vegas 92, Ramiz Brahimaj will return to the octagon after a 26-month absence due to a severe spinal injury. After over three months without a win, Themba Gorimbo, a welterweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, will also return. Themba Gorimbo and the 31-year-old are scheduled to square off at UFC Fight Night 241 on Saturday.
With a 12-4 record, Gorimbo will enter the Octagon, having defeated Takashi Sato and Pete Rodriguez two times in a row. This follows his UFC debut loss by submission to A.J. Fletcher.
Despite his recent rise in prominence, he is still the same person who applied for a UFC contract. He’s working even harder, not letting celebrity gimmicks stop him from reaching his goals of riches. Fighting at the UFC APEX without an arena full of spectators is also not a problem.

Gorimbo said, “I would love in front of a crowd, but I will fight where and when the UFC wants me to fight, and I’m not entitled to anything; I am just a guy from Zimbabwe that is going to become the UFC champion.” he also added, “ I’m just going to be grateful and do what I need to do every single day, work my butt off and win every fight until I become undeniable, and I become the champion. That’s what I can control. I can’t control where I fight.”
ESPN+ and the UFC Fight Pass apps will also stream the event, which takes place on Saturday, May 18, at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Preliminaries commence at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT, and the main card starts at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
