Kamaru Usman on Fighting Gamebred
The Welterweight division was ruled by Kamaru Usman for a long time before Leon Edwards. Usman became the pound-for-pound number-one fighter in the UFC and, along the way, beat a ton of major Welterweight stars. His rivalry with Jorge Masvidal is for the history books as the duo fought twice, with Usman winning both the bouts. Usman, in a conversation with Jorge Masvidal on his YouTube channel, said,
I’m watching your interviews and you’re [saying] ‘I’m gonna baptize this guy’, and it f***ing gets to me. I’m like ‘oh sh*t, is he gonna baptize me’. I’m in the hotel and I’m super nervous.
Usaman revealed that Jorge Masvidal’s trash talk got to him and made him quite nervous. Masvidal was a glorified trash talker and surely did a number on Usman when they were set to scrap. But Kamaru, an absolute versatile fighter in the cage, won both bouts relatively easily.
The duo’s first fight resulted in a decision victory over Jorge, as Usman showed his wrestling prowess. The second time around, things were different, as Usman knocked the hell out of Masvidal, gaining a highlight reel in the process.
