When it was formally revealed this past week that McGregor’s highly awaited rematch with Michael Chandler had been postponed due to injury by Dana White, the intrigue surrounding his will-he-won’t-he status for UFC 303 ended.
The main event of the June 29 pay-per-view in Las Vegas was supposed to be McGregor vs. Chandler. However, McGregor’s availability was called into question after he canceled a June 3 news conference that was meant to be used to promote the event in Dublin, Ireland.
Following the Irishman’s withdrawal from his scheduled fight against Michael Chandler this month, the CEO of the promotional company was obliged to rush to find a new main event for UFC 303.
Backstory Of Conor McGregor and Dana White With UFC 303
Although McGregor and Chandler were scheduled to fight as far back as February last year, no official date was announced until this year. They signed up over a year after their season of The Ultimate Fighter aired, and before it was canceled, they had sold an astounding $20 million worth of tickets.
In addition to the apparent effects on the card, International Fight Week, and the event’s attraction, McGregor’s withdrawal will impact how UFC CEO Dana White markets his top competitor in the future.
While there are rumors that McGregor might return to fight Chandler in UFC 306, White has refused to comment on it.
White discussed McGregor and a few other subjects this week with Sports Business Journal. He also revealed his strategy for advancing the MMA legend in the future. MMA Junkie shared a post on their social media platform of X, informing the same to the UFC fans.

“ Dana White is “not going to talk about” Conor McGregor’s fighting future until fully healthy.”
When asked if McGregor’s forced withdrawal from UFC 303 disappointed him, White responded, “It’s the business, man. This is the way it goes. And from here on, I’m not going to talk about it until when he’s healed and he’s right. Then we’ll look at the landscape and see what we can figure out.”
After a protracted break, much of which was devoted to healing from a broken leg sustained in his most recent fight, which took place at UFC 264 in July 2021 against Dustin Poirier, McGregor was scheduled to make his comeback. It is currently unknown whether McGregor’s decision to withdraw from UFC 303 resulted from a recent problem or from prior ailments.
