The Middleweight title picture is in a weird spot right now. There have been three new champions since the last year. Dricus Du Plessis won the middleweight strap after beating Sean Strickland in a close fight. Whereas Israel Adesanya has not fought since losing his title to Sean Strickland. And forever contender Robert Whittaker last fought and beat Paulo Costa in a three round thriller. Whittaker was recently giving his take on a potential title fight set to take place that does not involve him.
Robert Whittaker has been a top three contender since forever now. He has fought and beaten all the major Middleweight contenders barring the champion.
Robert Whittaker on Israel Adesanya vs Dricus Du Plessis
Apart from giving a proper beating to his opponents inside of the octagon Whittaker seems to be enjoying the finer things in life during his off time. Lately Whittaker has been spotted giving a couple of interview to various journalists. Recently in a conversation he said,
Adesanya fighting for the title again hurts me. But I understand. Dricus has asked for it. He’s champ. Gets what he wants. Adesanya is a draw.
Robert made it clear that Israel Adesanya getting the title shot before him even though he lost his bout against Sean Strickland in a rather emphatic fashion irks Whittaker up to some extent. Still Robert claimed that he understands if the champion wants to take on someone the UFC will listen to the man. Robert Whittaker last fought Paulo Costa and out struck him throughout the course of the three rounds.
Dricus did recently poke fun at Adesanya as he called him out for a fight in Perth, Australia a place where Israel Adesanya lost his middleweight strap to the champion. A fight between the two is not confirmed yet. Whereas Robert Whittaker is set to take on Khamzat Chimaev for his next bout and the winner of this matchup will potentially fight for the title next.
