The UFC has completed its three decades of existence. The next month UFC’s landmark 300th pay-per-view event is set to take place in Las Vegas. The company will want it to go down as one of the biggest events in the history of mixed martial arts. One of the most memorable events in company’s history was when the reigning champion Khabib Nurmagomedov defended his lightweight title for the very first time against the Irishman Conor McGregor.
UFC President in an interview given to Lex Fridman was seen talking about the landmark event which is etched in the memory of MMA fans since it took place.
Dana White on Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov
UFC President Dana White recently in an interview with famous podcaster Lex Fridman gave his take on the highest selling pay-per-view event in company’s history. UFC 229 was headlined by Khabib and Conor McGregor. Khabib got win in the fourth round when he finished Conor in the fourth round in a rather dominant fashion. Dana said,
If you look at the way that Khabib ran through so many people. Conor hung in there.
He added,
At the time I was incredibly criticized for putting together a spot that had a scene with the bus in it. The f**kin media was saying that I was pandering to the you know the violence that happened and trying to. I am telling you a story.

Dana White made it clear that he was impressed that Conor was able to handle Khabib’s wrestling pedigree up till the fourth round given the fact that he has finished majority of his opponents much earlier.
He also claimed that media made life hell for him as the duo of Khabib and Conor were involved in a pre-fight scrap when Conor threw a chair through a bus window and a fighter was hurt. This fight had one of the most intense build up with Conor poking Khabib by dragging his family and religion into the trash talk. Nurmagomedov never replied to Conor but paid the whole sum back with interest when he brutally mauled the Irishman in the five-round bout.
UFC 299 sold a massive 2.4 million pay-per-views as it became the highest selling pay-per-view in UFC history. Khabib’s first title defense will go down in history and will be remembered till the sport survives.
