Conor McGregor was set to return from his injury sustained against Dustin Poirier and face Michael Chandler. However, due to another injury, he withdrew from the fight. As a result, Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka are scheduled for a rematch at UFC 303. While everyone anticipates McGregor’s return, let’s look at how often The Mac has retired.
Conor McGregor’s On and Off Journey in UFC
In April 2016, Conor McGregor announced his first retirement from MMA. This came after he was expected to face Nate Diaz in a rematch at UFC 200 in July 2016, but he missed pre-fight media obligations, which led to the UFC pulling him from the event.
McGregor eventually returned and defeated Diaz in their rematch at UFC 202 in August 2016. He made history by becoming the first fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously, defeating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016.
In March 2019, McGregor announced his second retirement from MMA. However, this retirement was short-lived. As he returned to the octagon in January 2020 and defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246.
Conor McGregor’s third and most recent retirement from MMA came in June 2020, when he again took to social media to announce that he is hanging his boot from the sport. Like the others, this retirement has not lasted, as McGregor has continued to compete in the UFC since then.

Despite his third retirement, Conor McGregor was set to return. However, his comeback has been postponed. Dana White announced that the McGregor vs. Chandler fight will be rescheduled for later in the year, likely in August or September.
In McGregor’s place, UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will defend his title against former champion Jiri Prochazka in the main event of UFC 303. The co-main event will feature Brian Ortega against Diego Lopes. This event promises to be electrifying, so don’t miss the action.
