The Bantamweight scene in the UFC has been quite interesting in the past few years. The current reigning champion is Sean O’Malley, who won his crown against Aljamain Sterling when he knocked him out in the second round. Sterling recently moved up in weight when he fought in UFC 300 against Calvin Kattar. Sean O’Malley was seen talking about his former opponent’s win at UFC’s landmark event and elaborated on his fighting style.
Aljamain Sterling is a four-time champion in the UFC. He put the featherweight division on notice when he beat Kattar comfortably inside the octagon.
Sean O’Malley gives his take on Aljo’s victory
Sean O’Malley is one of the few who beat Aljamain Sterling inside the octagon. He is definitely qualified to discuss Sterling’s performance on his featherweight debut. Apart from beating out top-notch Bantamweight prospects, O’Malley spends time on his podcast discussing mixed martial arts. On his latest appearance on the podcast, Sean O’Malley said,
Sterling was just taking him down, holding him down and just holding him there, which I mean, that’s just his style. You know, I saved the Bantamweight division.
Sean O’Malley made it clear that he is not a fan of Aljo’s fighting style. Sterling is a natural grappler and has taken down every opponent he’s faced inside the octagon. O’Malley is the only fighter he couldn’t take down in the octagon. O’Malley claimed that Sterling just took him down and held him there throughout three rounds. He claimed he saved the Bantamweight division from his monotonous fighting style.
Aljamain Sterling will now be looking forward to fighting someone with a decent rank in the Featherweight division in the company. Sterling and O’Malley will probably never fight in the octagon unless Aljamain captures the Featherweight tile and O’Malley moves up to contend for the belt against the grappler.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with both the fighters in the near future in the Bantamweight and the Featherweight division of the UFC. Will Aljamin Sterling heed Sean O’Malley’s words or just continue winning his fights and bouts and moving up the Featherweight division of the company?
