The UFC 300 was an extraordinary affair in the company’s history. It featured eleven former and present champions in many fights. One of them was the legend in women’s MMA, Holly Holm, who was in the strawweight division in the UFC a few years back. Holly Holm beat out the fan favorite and defied the odds when she fought Ronda Rousey a few years back. Last weekend, she was challenged to beat Olympic gold medallist Kayla Harrison for her debut fight. Well, the fight didn’t go her way, and she lost her bout in the second round.
Holly Holm was an absolute monster in the UFC during her prime. She recently gave her thoughts after the fight, reflecting on the fight.
Holly Holm reflects on her loss
Holly Holm was supposed to fight Kayla Harrison, the undefeated trailblazer who beat her in the second minute of the second round. Holm was not content with her performance after the bout and wanted to dominate Kayla at the UFC 300. Harrison used her superior Judo skills to put down Kayla Harrison and spectacularly submitted her. Holm said,
I went out there and I lost all focus on the game plan. I did nothing that we traned for in this fight. All the respect to Kayla, she was the better fighter tonight. I just know I am capable of more than that. I’m one of those that likes to self reflect rather than run from things. I think honestly with yourself can sometimes be the hardest thing. But I am healthy, my heart hurts, my ego hurts.
Holm clarified that she lost all focus going into the fight and gave massive props to Kayla Harrison. She claimed that she did not follow the fight plan against Harrison and was reckless in her fight approach. Holm took down Harison in the first round in some fashion, but Kayla Harrison put Holm on her back and later choked her out in spectacular fashion.
In his post-fight press conference, Dana White said he would love to see Holly retire after losing her latest fight. Kayla will probably fight for the title next and will be her favorite in her bout. Holly Holm reached the sport’s absolute pinnacle a few years back when she acquired the UFC gold and knocked out Ronda Rousey via a viscous leg kick.
