The Featherweight division was put on notice when Alexander Volkanovski got dethroned after Ilia Topuria knocked him out in the second round. Many will agree that because Volk has dominated the division for so long, he deserves an immediate rematch against Topuria. As it turns out, the former pound-for-pound champion has other plans, as he recently revealed who he would like to take on soon.
The Featherweight division is in an interesting spot as many intriguing matchups can be made in the company.
Alexander Volkanovski makes a massive revelation
Former world Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has been having a rough time in the UFC lately. After years of domination in the featherweight division, he is on a two-fight losing streak after losing his belt to Ilia Topuria a few months back. Volkanovski, in an interview, claimed that he might want to fight for the coveted UFC belt for which he has not had the privilege of scrapping. Volkanovski said,
The BMFs something I haven’t touched before, so maybe we can do that. We’ll see what happens.
Alexander Volkanovski said he would love to compete for the BMF title next. Max Holloway is currently the company’s BMF champion. He phenomenally knocked out Justin Gaethje in the final minute of the final round to win the BMF championship. Holloway was the highest trending social media entity after the UFC’s landmark event, UFC 300. Holloway and Alexander Volknovski go way back in the featherweight division.
The duo of Volk and Max have already fought three times in the UFC’s Featherweight division. Alexander Volkanovski has beaten Holloway three times already, all by majority decision. The first two wins were still controversial in the company. Many believe that Max might have won the first two bouts. Volkanovski wants to get into a fight against Holloway once more shortly for the BMF Championship title. It will be interesting to see what happens in the featherweight division shortly. Who will be the champion of the featherweight division when the year ends? Only time will tell.
