Khamzat Chimaev, known as ‘Borz,’ had to cancel his fight with Robert Whittaker at UFC’s first event in Saudi Arabia due to ongoing health issues. As a result, Robert Whittaker will now be fighting Ikram Aliskerov instead. However, this isn’t the first time Chimaev has had to pull out of an important fight due to health issues.
Reviewing Khamzat Chimaev’s History of UFC Main Event Cancelations
Khamzat Chimaev’s career in the UFC has been marked by unfortunate cancellations when slated to headline major events. Since his last fight in October at UFC 294, where he secured a majority decision win against Kamaru Usman, Chimaev has encountered many setbacks.
He has been scheduled for main event bouts five times, and circumstances have led to the fight’s cancelation each time. These included matchups against Leon Edwards on three separate occasions, Nate Diaz and, most recently, Robert Whittaker.
Chimaev has struggled to capitalize on his momentum despite his impressive victory over Usman due to persistent health issues and other unforeseen challenges.
UFC president Dana White has expressed uncertainty regarding Borz’s return to competitive action. Chimaev, who remains undefeated in the UFC, was set to face former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker but withdrew from the bout due to undisclosed health issues.
White revealed that he witnessed footage of Chimaev severely unwell, yet the specifics of his condition remain unknown. Despite the uncertainty surrounding Chimaev’s health and return timeline, White assured fans that they can look forward to the upcoming fight between Robert Whittaker and Ikram Aliskerov.
