Khabib’s head coach gave out a strict warning to Conor McGregor
Khabib Nurmagomedov took on Conor McGregor in the year 2018. The build up to the bout between the two lightweight superstars was sensational. There was a lot of trash talk involved in the build up to the fight. Javier Mendez who was the head coach of the unbeaten Dagestani during the entirety of their career warned Khabib that words will be exchanged in the press conference. In an interview Javier said,
As soon as the fight was signed. I said to Khabib. I said listen he’s gonna come after your family, he’s gonna come after your religion, he’s gonna come after your country.
Javier made it clear that Conor is gonna use everything against him. There was an intense war of words in lead up to the fight week with Conor taking jabs at Khabib’s family and country. But Nurmagomedov being his stoic self didn’t flinch. Khabib got the job done by finishing Conor McGregor in the fourth round. It was probably Khabib’s best performance till date.
The bout between Conor and Khabib was the highest selling pay-per-view event of all time with over two million sold. The drama didn’t over there as Khabib jumped out of the cage to take on Conor’s teammates. Javier Mendez’s advice definitely helped him in the build up to the event. Nurmagomedov’s protege Islam has now taken over the division.
