It is not uncommon for commentators to mispronounce a fighter’s name. Something similar happened with Joe Rogan in 2022 when he mispronounced Umar Nurmagomedov’s last name after his fight with Brian Kelleher at UFC 272.
During his podcast with his guest Craig Jones, Joe Rogan recalled when he had butchered Khabib Nurmagomedov’s team’s Umar Nurmagomedov’s name during the post-interview. What came out surprising to the MMA fans was the fact that Joe Rogan had called out Khabib Nurmagomedov in multiple fights of his. But making a mistake with Umar’s last name, which is the same as that of Khabib’s, was hard for people of the MA world to digest.
Joe Rogan is an integral part of the MMA community but isn’t as actively involved as he used to be. His podcast’s current value is around $200 million. He is more inclined towards the “Joe Rogan Experience,” which might have also been why he made such a mistake in front of the cameras.
Khabib Nurmagomedov Trolled Joe Rogan For His Mistake
Rogan has demonstrated that even he is not immune to failure. Names sometimes roll off the tongue or get lost due to various pronunciations and spellings. Khabib Nurmagomedov advised Rogan to take Umar Nurmagomedov seriously because he poses a threat.
Despite not being brothers, all the Dagestani fighters trained under Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov have similar ideas about domination in the octagon.

Khabib and Umar Nurmagomedov are well-known in the UFC for their domination and winning records. Though he is still a relatively fresh fighter in the UFC, Umar Nurmagomedov will undoubtedly become a champion sooner rather than later. He needs more time to develop into a champion on par with “The Eagle.”
