Every fighter wants to see his name on the pound-for-pound rankings. Islam Makhachev is the current pound-for-pound crown prince in the cage ahead of everyone in the UFC. George St Pierre Picks Islam Makhachev as P4P King
George St Pierre is considered one of the greatest fighters in the UFC, having won titles in the Welterweight and Middleweight divisions. GSP has been to the absolute top in the UFC, and last fought in 2017 against Michael Bisping. Recently, he revealed why he thinks Islam Makhachev is the rightful king of the pound-for-pound rankings ahead of Jon Jones. GSP said,
I think he’s the best pound-for-pound right now.
The Hall of Famer made it clear that he thinks Islam is second to no one in the octagon and believes he is undoubtedly ahead of Jon Jones when skillset is considered. GSP, in conversation with his former coach, Firas Zahabi, revealed that Islam is way too skillful and has been a much more active fighter than anyone. Makahachev has finished all of his last seven opponents in the octagon and even ended Dustin Poirier in the final round of their fight.
Islam Makhachev is way too versatile. He has a great grappling pedigree and decent striking ability. He has beaten almost every major Lightweight in the octagon and defended his belt against various former champions in the UFC. George St Pierre has himself been the pound-for-pound champion, so he knows what he’s talking about.
