Francis Ngannou is set to return to MMA following his loss to Anthony Joshua.
Ngannou has not competed in MMA since defeating Ciryl Gane via unanimous decision to defend his heavyweight title at UFC 270 back in January 2022. Since then, ‘The Predator’ has left the UFC, signed with the PFL, and competed in two high-profile boxing matches.
However, Francis Ngannou’s boxing stint has not gone all that well. Despite putting on an impressive performance in his first fight against Tyson Fury, he lost the fight. In his second fight against Anthony Joshua, he ended up suffering a vicious KO defeat.
While Ngannou recently claimed that he will be eyeing a third boxing fight as he wants to avenge his loss, it now looks like he will return to MMA. During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani for The MMA Hour, Donn Davis revealed that his return to action will be in mixed martial arts and not boxing.

While suggesting that Ngannou will face Renan Ferreira later this year, the founder of PFL said:
“Will it be as early as July? Maybe. Will it be as late as September? No later, but you’ll see Francis now in 2024 in PFL against [Renan Ferreira] in what I believe is going to be the fight I’m looking forward to the most in the heavyweight division in all of MMA.”

Francis Ngannou believes boxing owes him something
As mentioned earlier, Francis Ngannou suffered a vicious second-round knockout loss against Anthony Joshua in what was his second career professional boxing bout earlier this month. While many believed he would walk away from the sport, the former UFC champion revealed that is not the case.
Ngannou believes that boxing has taken something from him after being at the end of two consecutive losses. Moreover, he is motivated to avenge his loss and secure a victory inside the squared circle in the future.
That said, it will be interesting to see if and when Ngannou returns to boxing in the future.
