Rafael dos Anjos, the veteran UFC fighter, is facing a significant setback in his career. He sustained a devastating knee injury at UFC 308 while fighting Geoff Neal. The 40-year-old Brazilian took to social media to share the unfortunate news. He revealed that his ACL is “gone” and he will need to undergo surgery in the coming days.
Dos Anjos’ fight with Geoff Neal at the recent UFC pay-per-view event in Abu Dhabi was a short-lived affair. The former lightweight champion suffered a knee injury in the opening minutes of the bout. The fight was subsequently waved off, with Neal declared the winner via TKO due to the knee injury.
“My ACL is gone guys, going under the knife on the next couple of days. God’s plans,” wrote Dos Anjos on his IG story.
This latest setback is a tough blow for Dos Anjos, who has been struggling to regain his championship form. The Brazilian MMA veteran has been a staple in the UFC for nearly 16 years, having made his debut with the promotion back in 2008. During his illustrious career, he has faced off against some of the biggest names in the sport, including Khabib Nurmagomedov, Nate Diaz, and Kamaru Usman.
However, Dos Anjos’ recent run has been less than stellar, as he’s currently on a three-fight losing skid. His last victory came against Paul Felder back in 2020, and since then, he’s suffered defeats against Renato Moicano, Leon Edwards, and now Geoff Neal.
