UFC seems to be gearing up for a comeback season in 2025, with rumors swirling about the returns of Jorge Masvidal, Nate Diaz, Nick Diaz, and others. Now, another UFC veteran is reportedly preparing for a comeback at 41 years old: former title challenger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. The speculation about his return is at an all-time high, given that he has made his return to the drug testing pool, adding to the excitement around UFC’s future plans.
Cerrone, who retired from the UFC in 2022, made headlines by openly admitting to using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) after his exit from the sport and even undergoing a hair transplant. Now, as his potential comeback nears, he’s returning to drug testing, defying Dana White’s wishes.
Former UFC lightweight and welterweight says he is eyeing a return in summer 2025. Known for his consistent activity with at least two fights a year, the veteran is planning a comeback in June or July and aims to compete in two more bouts to hit 50 fights in the UFC. In his words, “Probably June, July we will make the comeback. Coming back for two more. Just two more. I want 50 fights in the UFC.”
Talking about his career, Cerrone’s record includes 55 professional MMA bouts, with 48 of them happening during the UFC’s Zuffa era. Indeed, it will be interesting to see how he makes his comeback after his PED usage.
Dana White Doesn’t Want Cowboy To Return
Indeed, every sport reaches a point where athletes don’t have the same drive to compete. Looking at Cerrone’s recent performances, it’s clear his skills and spirit have declined—he’s lost seven fights and hasn’t won in his last eight. While Dana White loves Cowboy, he doesn’t want him to fight anymore.
“Look at every time we’re at a show, and we show Cowboy Cerrone on the screen, the place goes nuts. He’s beloved. He’s beloved because the guy goes to war, and he’s been in wars for years, and it’s time to not go to war anymore. There’s nothing left to prove for him,” he said.

Talking about his return, Dana said if it’s about money, they’ll figure out something else for him to do. So it will be interesting to see if he ever fights again in the octagon, while Dana doesn’t like the older fighters to put on a show.
