The year’s final PPV event, UFC 310, is facing challenges as UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad has suffered a bone infection. This injury has forced him to pull out of his first title defense against Shavkat Rakhmonov. With Rakhmonov eager to stay on the card, the UFC matchmakers now face the task of finding a replacement. Fortunately, the former welterweight champion has shown interest in stepping in for Muhammad.
Rumors suggest Kamaru Usman is the top choice to step in against Rakhmonov, but ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ clarified that the UFC has yet to contact him about replacing Muhammad at the final PPV event of the year. On his Pound 4 Pound podcast with Henry Cejudo, Usman expressed his willingness to accept the fight if asked, noting his history of taking short-notice bouts against Jorge Masvidal and Khamzat Chimaev. He said,
“The UFC is gonna call who they think is gonna be legit, tough enough, man enough and crazy enough to step in there on short notice and go out there and possibly shock the world. Definitely, the UFC know who to call when that situation happens.”
Usman emphasized that if the UFC reaches out, he’s ready to answer the call, settle a few details, and step up if needed. He pointed out his past commitment, having previously taken fights on just six and eight days’ notice.
Michael Bisping Suggests an Alternate Opponent For Shavkat Rakhmonov At UFC 310
UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping has his own suggestion for Shavkat Rakhmonov’s next opponent at UFC 310. While Rakhmonov has expressed interest in facing Kamaru Usman, and fans continue to speculate, Bisping believes Leon Edwards would be an ideal matchup. In a recent interview with Bloody Elbow, Bisping said,
“If you’re Leon Edwards, you step in, you be the co-main event on a pay-per-view, you fight Shavkat Rakmanhov, 18-0, all finishes. That’s a compelling fight, it would sell a lot of pay-per-views.”
