Conor McGregor has always been a hot topic for discussion. Since his time in the UFC, the charismatic Irishman has awed everyone. In fact, his presence in the octagon was such that Dana White, at one point, termed McGregor as the best pound-for-pound fighter. However, there was one former UFC icon who did not like the idea. This athlete mentioned that there have been a lot of fighters who have done better than McGregor.
Well, the fighter is none other than the ‘Mighty Mouse’, Demetrious Johnson. Appearing in a recent episode of Miesha Tate’s ‘Built For Growth’ podcast, Johnson reflected on his relationship with Dana White. Johnson mentioned that despite being traded to ONE Championship, he had quite a good ratio with the UFC head honcho. However, he recalled one instance when he disagreed with White’s opinion of Conor McGregor.
“At the time, when I was in the UFC when I was a champion, he thought Conor McGregor was the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. I disagree with him. I was like, ‘I don’t think he is.’ There’s been people out there who’ve been able to finish him and done a lot better than him,” said Johnson.
Now then, Johnson might not have believed ‘The Notorious’ to be the best. That did not stop him from becoming one of the biggest names in the industry. And while retirement rumors are circulating about the Irishman, McGregor has just dropped a major update on his future.
