Since Israel Adesanya lost his middleweight title last year the middle weight title has been on the move ever since. Sean Strickland took the title from Israel Adesanya as he put forward a striking clinic and beat him via unanimous decision.
Sean Strickland was set to defend his title against the South African Dricus Du Plesis in Canada. Everything did not go to plan as Du Plesis emerged victorious after the five-round brawl. In a recent interview Strickland let his thoughts be known to the UFC on who he wants to fight next.
Sean Strickland wants the money fight
Sean Strickland is one of the most outspoken athletes on the UFC roster. Sean’s tongue has gotten him into some serious controversies in the past few years. The man is never afraid to speak his mind. In an interview given to the Schmo he once again quite unapologetically asked for what he thinks he deserves by the company. Strickland said,
See guys I won Dana said I won, Rogan said I won, we all know I won I went to Canada you guys I went to Canada and I fought in front of the commies. Let’s run this [ __ ] back settle it like men that’s all I’m trying to say. Settle like a man . I don’t really talk to UFC much. Let me tell
you something about the UFC I deserve that rematch and if they don’t give me that rematch they’re just not they’re just not one of us if they don’t give me that rematch understand it’s for one reason and one reason alone they want me to shut up.
Sean made it clear that he wants to fight no one but Dricus Du Plesis for his next fight. He is convinced that he deserves the title shot once more. Sean Strickland made it clear that he is not fighting anymore because of money. He just wants to scrap for his passion for fighting. It was a rather close fight between Dricus and Sean Strickland. Strickland might have out struck Dricus but he also got taken down by the middleweight champion of the world.
It’ll be interesting to see who’s going to challenge Dricus for his first title defense. Another contender Robert Whittaker also wanted to take on Dricus as he beat Paulo Costa while displaying an impressive performance. The former champion Israel Adesanya is yet to make his return since he lost the middleweight strap last year. Who will be the next holder of the middleweight strap? Dricus? Sean Strickland? Or will it be Whittaker? Only time will tell.
