Daniel Cormier taking the side of Jon Jones is something that we do not get to see often. After all, the duo has had a bitter rivalry in the past. Surprisingly, in a recent statement, DC came out in support of the UFC heavyweight champion. Recently, there has been a verbal back-and-forth between Jones and Colby Covington. As ‘Chaos’ failed to secure a win against Joaquin Buckley, ‘Bones’ took the opportunity to mock the welterweight fighter.
Such trolling was not taken in a good light by Covington. He swiftly replied with a scathing remark calling him a ‘cheater’. And this is exactly where Daniel Cormier has a serious problem. The former champ champ took to his YouTube channel and expressed his frustration about Covington’s words.
“He’s speaking of Jon Jones as if they were best friends in college… Colby or at least it is perceived to be his feelings towards Jon Jones because he’s very vocal about it he hates Jones. At least he would have you believe that,” said Cormier.
DC also termed Covington as a ‘gimmick’. He stated that before all his trash-talking, ‘Chaos’ was a completely different fighter. Unfortunately, making a comeback after all these years, Covington failed to reign supreme on Joaquin Buckley. And while the outcome might have surprised some, a UFC icon already got the alarms blaring.
Kamaru Usman Warned Colby, Covington Of The Joaquin Buckley Threat
Usman was always in doubt about how much could Colby Covington salvage from his return fight. The last time Covington stepped into the octagon, he lost a title match against Leon Edwards. Speaking on the matchup, Usman mentioned that such a long layoff might have caused significant ring rust for Covington.
Moreover, Joaquin Buckley’s aggressive style of play also contributed to Usman’s doldrums. “I worry about the inactivity of Covington… such a long layoff, it’s going to take time to get into the fight to where he starts get going again,” Usman stated.

However, he did predict that if Covington was able to take the match deep, he would have a chance. Unfortunately, that did not happen, and now, ‘Chaos’ is desperately trying to find his way back to the winning days.
