The UFC is often hailed as the best MMA organization in the world. The company has become a billion-dollar organization—every MMA fighter dreams of acquiring UFC gold. The UFC features many fighters of non-American origin. Currently, almost half of the champions hail from outside the USA. Former middleweight champion of the world, Sean Strickland, raised an issue on social media about many foreign fighters.
The UFC recently allowed its MMA stars to carry their country’s flag inside the octagon. This did not sit well with Sean Strickland.
Sean Strickland calls out foreign fighters
Sean Strickland was last featured against Dricus Du Plessis when he lost his title to South Africa via a decision. Strickland announced that he will be getting inside the cage against Paulo Costa. Sean Strickland is known for being outspoken in the UFC and has shared his controversial views on the world before. Strickland once more took to his social media to point out a major flaw that he sees with many fighters of non-American origin. Strickland said,
I’m so sick of seeing foreign flags in America.. I don’t get it. You left your corrupt country to come to the USA and yet you still rep what you fled? The worst is Hispanics born in America flying a Mexican flag.. Where is your loyalty.. Just go back.. Enjoy your foreign flag
He made it clear that the fighters come to the USA to evade corruption, enjoy a better standard of living, and still pledge their allegiance to their homeland. Strickland especially pointed out the fighters of Mexican origin. Mexicans are known for fleeing their country in heavy numbers to have a better life in the USA. Sean’s statement might not go down well with most Mexico-born fighters in the company.
Many UFC stars hail from Mexico, including former champion Brandon Moreno, Henry Cejudo, and Dominick Cruz. Strickland’s comments have recently sparked a number of altercations on social media. Strickland is a true American through and through. He is set to take on Paulo Costa and will be willing to win to get back to a title shot in the Middleweight division. It will be interesting to see what happens in the Middleweight division of the UFC in the near future.
