Recently, in an interview, he revealed that he was supposed to fight a certain fighter often considered the greatest in the sport by many.

Robert Whittaker is riding on a high as he is coming fresh off a hard-earned victory in the octagon. Whittaker, often considered one of the most versatile fighters in the company, recently revealed that he was supposed to fight one of the best mixed martial artists in the history of the UFC. Whittaker, in a recently held interview, said,
There was a period when I was supposed to fight GSP. I would have loved that fight.
Robert Whittaker claimed he was set to take on the Welterweight great George St-Pierre a few years back. GSP was often considered the best all-around fighter in the company. He has over ten title fights to his name. The Canadian has beaten every fighter he has ever faced in the octagon. The former two-division champion has only lost to two men in his career and avenged both his losses later on.
A bout between Robert Whittaker and GSP would have been thrilling. Whittaker and GSP are two fighters who mix striking and wrestling. Whittaker has an immense takedown pedigree, whereas GSP is a world-class grappler in the middle of the octagon. GSP retired after winning the Middleweight title against Michael Bisping in 2017.
