Violence is synonymous with Petr Yan’s name. The Russian has one of the most forward and violent approaches in the world of MMA. The former Bantamweight champion of the world got back in the win column a few months back and would be willing to carry on the momentum. Petr Yan is recovering from an injury he suffered in his last bout but is still looking for an opponent. Yan spoke his mind after hearing that Marlon Vera wanted to take on Yan.
Despite losing the title fight to Sean O’Malley, Marlon Vera is still one of the top contenders in the Bantamweight division.
Former champion Petr Yan gives his take on Marlon Vera fight
Marlon Vera and Petr Yan both fought in the UFC 299 card. Yan won an impressive three-rounder against Song Yadong whereas Vera couldn’t cause an upset. Vera absorbed much damage in the title fight as O’Malley put up an absolute clinic against him. Vera will have to take a ton of time off from fighting. He also ate a clean knee and everyone was left wondering why is Vera still on his feet. Petr Yan, on a possible bout against Marlon, said,
Let’s be honest, if we had fought earlier, you would never have made it to the title fight. Everything has its time, and the time for your whooping is coming soon
Petr Yan made it clear that if the duo had fought earlier, Yan would have absolutely put a beating on Vera, and Marlon would have never fought for the title. Yan is confident in his striking ability, so much so that he thinks Vera is not a close contender against him. Petr Yan lost his title when he hit Aljamain Sterling with an illegal knee. He hasn’t been able to get back to his title yet.
Marlon Vera has knocked out his opponents before, but many will agree that Petr Yan is a different beast inside the octagon. Many believe that Yan also beat Sean O’Malley when they fought a couple of years back in the UFC.
