Alexandre Pantoja, the Brazilian monster, currently rules the Flyweight division. Pantoja has beaten almost every top-notch contender in the company. He recently beat out Steve Erceg in the main event of the UFC 301. After his victory inside the octagon, he made a rather exciting declaration in the interview. Pantoja defended his title in front of his home crowd in the octagon of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
Alexandre Pantoja is still looking for his next opponent and had an intriguing contender when he was quizzed about who he wants to take on next.
Alexandre Pantoja calls out Demetrious Johnson
UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja is riding high on confidence after successfully defending his second title in the company. In the post-fight press conference, he was asked who he would like to fight in the octagon for his next title defense. Pantoja had a rather exciting answer prepared for him. He said,
I have a huge respect for Demetrious Johnson. I can try to compare myself with him. That’s a dream for me.
Pantoja clarified that he wants to fight Demetrious Johnson in the Octagon. Johnson is often touted as one of the best mixed martial artists of all time in the UFC. He has over ten title fight victories in the company and is only second to Jon Jones. The former Flyweight champion is considered by many to be the greatest boxer of all time, pound for pound. Alexander Pantoja wants to take on the greatest fighter the Flyweight division has ever seen.
Demetrius Johnson is one of the most versatile fighters in the UFC. He is fluent in both striking and ground game. He is known for his exhilarating pace inside the cage, finishing and knocking his opponents out. He has beaten a ton of Olympic gold medalists in the octagon. It’ll be interesting to see if Dana White pays any heed to what Pantoja says. If the Flyweight GOAT is to come back, the fight is for sure going to be a sell-out in the octagon.
