With the recent news about his next fight, Magomed Ankalaev is not happy. The top-ranked UFC light heavyweight has been eyeing the golden prize for quite some time now. But it seems the UFC has other plans. Ankalaev had his heart set on a showdown with champion Alex Pereira. Instead, he’s been paired with Aleksandar Rakic for UFC 308 in October.
The Russian fighter isn’t taking this snub lying down. He’s fired up and ready to prove a point. Ankalaev took to social media to vent his frustrations. His message? Watch out, future opponents!
“Now everybody knows I’m not fighting for the title and will fight Rakic in Abu Dhabi. Whoever Mick Maynard gives me, I will smash their face so that they can no longer deny me if I do my job impressively. I feel sorry for whoever is gonna fight me from now going forward,” said Ankalaev.
But let’s be real: can anyone blame him? Ankalaev’s UFC record is impressive. He’s only tasted defeat once in the octagon. That loss? A last-second submission in his debut fight. Since then, Ankalaev has been on a rampage. He’s racked up win after win, leaving a trail of defeated opponents in his wake. His ground game is particularly feared. Even the champ, Pereira, has acknowledged Ankalaev’s grappling skills.
The UFC 308 matchup against Rakic will be Ankalaev’s chance to shine. Rakic is no pushover himself, ranked fifth in the division. But Ankalaev seems determined to make a statement. Will this be enough to secure that coveted title shot finally? Only time will tell.

The Russian fighter has his sights set on one man: Alex Pereira, the current champion. “Poatan” has been making waves with his knockout power. But Ankalaev is not impressed. In a recent interview, Ankalaev threw down the gauntlet and declared that Pereira wouldn’t even be able to touch him in a fight.
“Many experts understand that I can easily beat Pereira… I think with his speed, he won’t touch me at all. The most he can do is hit me with a low kick,” Ankalaev via Aslanbek Badaev.
Ankalaev’s not just talking about defense, though. He’s got plans to go on the offensive, too. But, let’s not forget about Pereira. The champ has been on quite a run himself. He’s been knocking out opponents left and right, including some big names. But Ankalaev is not buying the hype.
The light heavyweight division is certainly heating up and If Ankalaev gets his way, we might be in for one heck of a showdown.
