Ilia Topuria completed his career objective of winning the UFC gold when he won the title, knocking out Alexander Volkanovski in the second round of their bout in the UFC via a powerful combination. Since his victory at the UFC, Topuria has been riding high on confidence. Ilia has called out Max Holloway several times in the Octagon since his victory in the UFC 300 BMF bout. He recently sent out a threat to Holloway in an interview.
Ilia Topuria will be an absolute favorite going into any bout against any featherweight contender in the UFC.
Ilia Topuria threatens Max Holloway
Featherweight champion Ilia Topuria is confident in his ability to out-strike and out-grapple anyone in the octagon. Topuria is an absolute monster who knows what it takes to down an opponent. Barring Max Holloway, he beat almost every top contender in the Bantamweight division. Max Holloway recently won the BMF title when he beat out Justin Gaethje. Topuria said,
Do you want me to submit you? Do you want me to knock you out? How do you want me to finish you? I can do you whatever I want to do. I’m better than him everywhere.
Topuria and Holloway are two of the best pound-for-pound strikers in the UFC. Ilia has a boxing-heavy style and uses his exquisite leg and head movement to evade shots and counter greatly. Max relies heavily on his speed. Topuria clarified that he can finish Max however he desires in the octagon. Topuria has some serious grappling game and can submit anyone off his back.
Max Holloway has yet to respond to Ilia Topuria’s claims. Holloway is hands-down an absolute beast, but he has yet to face any fighter of the same caliber as Topuria. Ilia will defend his title for the first time before the year ends. He clarified that he wants to take on Max Holloway in the Octagon. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the featherweight division in the future and who ends their year as the Featherweight champion of the world.
