Those who have been following the UFC for a long time know that Alexander Volkanovski ruled the featherweight division like a relentless champion, setting a new standard for greatness. In his UFC career, Volkanovski appears to be in a hero arc of sorts, grappling with a tough phase, seeing his three losses in a year. Despite this rough patch, the Australian legend has reignited his motivation, reminding everyone—and himself—of his greatness and showing his hunger to return to the top with his recent post.
On Instagram, Alexander Volkanovski shared a reel compiling some of his most memorable moments inside the octagon. The video features fans passionately cheering for ‘The Great’ during his high-stakes fights against Max Holloway, Brian Ortega, and other notable opponents, and he delivered brilliance every time. The former champion captioned the reel with, “I live for this sh*t,” suggesting that it is the driving force to keep fighting after all these years still.
There’s no denying that enduring three losses in a year was a heavy blow for a fighter who had only lost once in his career until last year. However, it’s worth noting that these defeats came under challenging circumstances: he fought twice on short notice and got a debatable first loss against Islam Makhachev. Despite these setbacks, there’s strong hope for his comeback, and he is targeting it with two potential options: a featherweight title fight or a lightweight fight.
Alexander Volkanovski Targets Lightweight Division for Comeback
Alexander Volkanovski’s reign over the featherweight division has been historic, but the law of averages eventually took its toll, resulting in the loss of his title. Meanwhile, he recently talked to Sky Sports NZ to discuss his future plans in the UFC. He stated that after the two setbacks against Islam Makhachev, he wants to explore new opportunities in this higher-weight class if he doesn’t get a title contender fight soon.
He stated, “I can wait ( to face the winner of Topuria vs. Holloway), if I don’t want to wait I can do something else, or just wait… That’s probably what I’m going to do. I could have done a lightweight fight, there’s a lot of exciting fights there.”

After losing the title, speculation has been wild, with potential opponents like Charles Oliveira being tossed around. However, Volkanovski has stated that his main goal is to regain his belt. He might consider moving up a weight class if he doesn’t get that chance soon and is itching for a fight.
