The Lightweight division has been in an exciting spot lately, with Dustin Poirier challenging Islam Makhachev for the title and Michael Chandler welcoming Conor McGregor back to the octagon. Conor and Chandler are natural lightweights but are set to go against each other in the Welterweight division.
In an interview, Poirier made an interesting remark about Conor, which might not please the two-division champion.
Dustin Poirier on Conor McGregor
In an interview with ESPN recently, Dustin Poirier was asked whether Conor McGregor needs to fight in the UFC. Poirier, who has fought Conor three times in the cage, gives a rather interesting reply, which Conor might find annoying. Poirier said,
Conor’s ego might need it. But financially business side of it, he doesn’t need it. Chandler I can’t say. I’m not sure.
Poirier clarified that the Irish champion does not need to fight in the cage because of money. Dustin implied that Conor is the richest MMA athlete, making millions of dollars in the octagon. According to Forbes in the Cage, Conor was ranked the richest athlete ever a few years back. While he was sure the Mac was well off, he was not so sure about Michael Chandler.
Conor McGregor’s net worth is $200 million, and he has made the majority of his net worth through selling his spirits company, Proper Twelve. Michael Chandler has been the champion at other organizations besides the UFC. Chandler and Conor have made a ton of money in the octagon before, and their outing in the UFC 303 main event will only ensure that the duo pocket a couple more million bucks.
