Ever since losing to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, Dustin Poirier has been absent from combat sports. However, he was recently seen in a video where he teased his potential opponent and revealed one more thing about his retirement plan.
Poirier was recently featured in a video on a YouTube channel called Full Violence. In the video, he discussed many things, from who gave his moniker to how his family has been asking him to put a stop to his MMA career. Moreover, he also revealed that he is taking one step at a time and is continuously training. ‘The Diamond’ said,
“Deep down in my heart I feel like I’m going to fight again my wife wants me to stop my daughter wants me to stop my mother wants me to stop I’ve been doing it since I was 17 you know I’m 35 so we’ll see.”
Although Poirier clarified that he still wanted to fight, he did not reveal the name of his next opponent. It has been just a month since he last fought in the UFC octagon. So, ‘The Diamond’ certainly needs well-deserved rest before making his return.
How Has Dustin Poirier’s UFC Career Been So Far?
‘The Diamond’ joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship in October 2010 after World Extreme Cagefighting merged with Dana White’s promotion. After that, he made his debut against Josh Grispi at the UFC 125 on January 1, 2011. Interestingly, it was also his featherweight division debut, and he won the bout via a unanimous decision.
After winning four consecutive fights, Poirier tasted his first-ever UFC defeat against Jung Chan-sung. In his over a decade-long career, he faced fighters like Conor McGregor, Michael Johnson, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Justin Gaethje. In his 40 matches MMA career, he had 31 fights inside the UFC octagon. He won 22 and lost 8 matches to date.
