In a recent X post, Poirier teased his return to the octagon by posting, “News Coming.” While it is not clear who his next opponent would be, there are certainly some strong contenders for the same. Initially, Poirier wanted a second title shot with Islam Makhachev. When that was not granted, rumors related to Max Holloway and Ilia Topuria surfaced. Now, it is quite unlikely that Poirier will be given another title shot considering it will be his farewell match.

However, a match-up with Holloway might be a possibility. Moreover, there are also heavy speculations about a potential trilogy fight with Justin Gaethje. This could also be an interesting prospect as their two meetings inside the octagon have resulted in the rivalry standing at 1-1. Meanwhile, despite the MMA community being abuzz with Poirier’s return, UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov had a brutal suggestion for ‘Diamond.’
