The latest episode of MMA drama features Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler. These two lightweight contenders just can’t seem to play nice. The duo fought in the Octagon, but still, the rivalry didn’t end there.
Chandler burst onto the UFC scene in 2021 with a bang. He knocked out Dan Hooker in his debut, impressing fans and critics alike. Fast forward to now, and Chandler’s still riding that high. He recently took to X to remind everyone of his accomplishments. This didn’t sit well with Poirier as he swooped in with a sharp retort.
“Shut up, I got wins over the #3, #5, #6, #9, and #12 LWs,” wrote Poirier.
‘The Diamond’ told Chandler to pipe down, flexing his own impressive resume in the process. Poirier claimed wins over five currently ranked lightweights. Meanwhile, Chandler’s bragging isn’t entirely without merit. His win over Hooker was impressive. But in the fast-paced world, fighters are only as good as their last fight, as the saying goes.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t their first rodeo. Poirier and Chandler have a history of trading barbs online. The irony is that both these men are incredibly talented fighters. They’ve put on some of the most exciting bouts in recent memory. Yet here they are, bickering like kids.

Recently, Chandler decided to poke the bear. He suggested that Dustin Poirier, who’s been in the game since 2010, might want to consider hanging up his gloves. Poirier fired back with both barrels.
“Who the f*ck is ‘we? You just got here, buddy. You’re not one of us. You’re not ‘we.’ I’ve been here… You’ve got one win in the UFC. He’s not one of us. I’ve been cutting my teeth in the UFC since January of 2011, 2010. He just got here. Who is we?” said Poirier via The MMA Hour.
‘The Diamond’ didn’t stop there, as he reminded Chandler of their previous encounter. The whole situation is unpredictable. With Conor McGregor stalling, will they fight again? Will Poirier retire? These are the questions that keep MMA fans up at night. But one thing’s certain: the lightweight division is never boring, with daily verbal warfare.
