Athletes in the combat sports community often engage in continuous clashes with each other. But sometimes, these clashes stumble outside the realm of the combat sports world. Recently, an unexpected feud has caught the attention of MMA fans and analysts alike. Former UFC middleweight champ Sean Strickland and former American Navy SEAL David Goggins have been beefing, and a UFC Hall of Famer doesn’t much like Goggins’ chances.
In the world of social media, Goggins and Strickland are constantly trading barbs. Their back-and-forth has become the talk of the MMA community. And in the middle of this drama, Chael Sonnen, the self-proclaimed “bad guy” of MMA, has a word of caution for the former American Navy Seal. He warned Goggins, claiming that engaging with Strickland might not be the wisest move.
“Goggins should not be able to make it through the workout the same as Sean should not be able to go over and do these ultra triathlons that Goggings does. If you are addressing Sean Strickland, you need to know it’s not for clicks. There’s some guys that you can play with, don’t play with Sean,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel.
The dispute began when Strickland challenged Goggins to a sparring match. Goggins gave a counter reply, inviting ‘Tarzan’ to join him for an intense training session. Explaining the physiology, Sonnen pointed out the fundamental differences between their respective fields of expertise. He noted that giving up in a triathlon isn’t the same as quitting in a fight.
Chael Sonnen’s concern stemmed from his long-standing relationship with the controversial UFC middleweight fighter. He emphasized that Strickland’s online persona isn’t just for show. His words also serve as a reminder of the unique mindset required for combat sports; it’s a world where mental toughness is just as crucial as physical prowess.
Sean Strickland Buries The Hatchet With David Goggins
Problems come and go in the world of fighting. A fight can end a beef, and so can a good training session. That is the case with Strickland. The former middleweight has apparently buried the hatchet with the motivational speaker Goggins. The online spat between the two had been heating up in recent days.

Strickland is always known for his controversial statements. A few days back, he took to X to declare a ceasefire between the two. Strickland wrote,
“Alright you guys I’m done making fun of Goggins, i trained, I feel good. Clarity. I have to wait for Dricus and Izzy to fight.. I’m on the bench. I’m just bored and angry and hurting people makes me feel good inside lol..You’re cool goggins… keep on jogging my man….”
The fighter explained his recent behavior, citing boredom as the prime culprit. He recently stated that he was willing to wait as long as it took to secure a title shot after his win over Paulo Costa. Notably, Sean Strickland lost the middleweight belt to Dricus Du Plessis in a razor-thin decision, with many scoring the fight in his favor. With his recent win, he’s more than happy to wait for his rightful rematch.
