Colby Covington has opened up about a potential fight against Khamzat Chimaev. Covington is widely considered to be one of the best welterweights on the planet. He has previously won the interim UFC welterweight title as well.
However, he has failed to win the undisputed UFC welterweight championship on three occasions. Over the past year, there have been rumors surrounding a potential fight between Covington and Khamzat Chimaev.
However, the fight never happened and Chimaev ended up moving to the middleweight division. Addressing the speculations, Colby Covington confirmed that he wanted to fight the latter at welterweight.
While further suggesting that Chimaev does not have good cardio and could not last five rounds, Covington stated:
“In a five round fight I would be super intrigued by that [Khamzat] fight. I always told them I want this guy in a main event, I don’t think he can last. His cardio doesn’t look that good. His last fight he fought [Kamaru] Usman at 185 on one weeks notice and I thought Usman won the fight…”

Who is Colby Covington fighting next?
Colby Covington was last seen inside the octagon last year in a title fight against Leon Edwards. While many thought that Covington could impose some threat on Edwards, that did not seem to be the case.
Covington lost the fight after a dominating performance by Edwards. Since then, there has been much talk surrounding his next opponent.
While nothing is confirmed at the moment, it looks like his next opponent will most likely be Ian Garry. The two seem to have been taking shots at each other online and fans are eager to see them fight.
