On Saturday night, Max Holloway will participate in the much-awaited 155-pound battle for Justin Gaethje’s BMF belt. After defeating Chan Sung Jung, “The Korean Zombie,” and Arnold Allen in his last two fights, “Blessed” is momentarily withdrawing from the featherweight class.
Many fans have questioned why Holloway is fighting at 155 pounds rather than pursuing another featherweight title shot, particularly after Ilia Topuria defeated Alexander Volkanovski in February.
According to Henry Cejudo’s plan, Ilia Topuria’s first championship defense demands a roster change for UFC 300.
The newly crowned featherweight champion of the UFC has gained popularity fast and has demanded more bouts outside of his weight class. Although Cejudo, a former UFC two-division champion, is no stranger to pursuing huge fights in other weight classes, he believes Topuria isn’t quite ready to make the move.

Max Holloway Responds To Demand For His Fight Against Ilia Topuria
Former 145-pound champion Max Holloway is riding a two-fight victory streak in the class. The Hawaiian defeated top opponents Chan Sung Jung and Arnold Allen in back-to-back victories. Holloway overcame two more challengers, Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez, before suffering a third defeat at the hands of Volkanovski.

The victory of Topuria gave Holloway more optimism for a rematch with the title. Furthermore, a new title bout involving a huge star power would be necessary for the promotion’s possible card to take place in Spain.
After facing Gaethje at 155 pounds, Holloway may move back down to featherweight, but Cejudo thinks there’s too much chance of injury and would much rather see Holloway take on Topuria right away.
A post made by Championship Rounds on the social media platform formally known as Twitter, now X, stated:
Max Holloway responds to people telling him to fight Ilia Topuria:
“This whole Ilia [Topuria] talk, a lot of people just harassing me like ‘oh my god he’s gonna kill Max’.
Brother, when I was Ilia’s age I think I had a title defense already. I was fighting for like 3 titles already.
Calm down bro, when the time comes and it happens, it’s gonna happen and I look forward to that.”
Fans on social media are going crazy about the possible disclosure of a Topuria-Holloway interim championship fight, with some saying that the fight should have happened sooner rather than later.
