For UFC 302, which takes place on June 1 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, the UFC Dana White has formally confirmed the entire fight card.
When UFC 288 took place at the Prudential Center in May of last year, Aljamain Sterling successfully defended his bantamweight title against Henry Cejudo, while Yan Xiaonan secured a chance at the strawweight title by finishing Jéssica Andrade. This year, UFC 302 will debut at the same venue on pay-per-view.
Dana White Announces Full Fight Card For UFC 302
Following UFC 300, UFC CEO Dana White declared that Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier would square off for the lightweight title at UFC 302, with middleweights Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa competing in the co-main event. Today, the promotion formally revealed the complete 13-fight schedule in a press release.
After defeating Charles Oliveira at UFC 300, #1-ranked Arman Tsarukyan said he had to reject a quick turnaround to fight Makhachev at UFC 302. Still, Tsarukyan has already stated that he plans to challenge the victor of that lightweight title match.
For the first time since losing the middleweight title to Dricus Du Pessis at UFC 297, Strickland will make his debut in the co-main event at UFC 302. In contrast, another primary middleweight matchup between leading contenders Roman Dolidze and Anthony Hernandez is scheduled for the main card.
