Daniel Cormier praising Jon Jones is the most absurd thing that can happen in the realm of UFC. After all, who can forget their toxic rivalry from the past? However, in a bizarre turn of events, Cormier did acknowledge Jones as one of the best fighters in the UFC. Ahead of Jones’ fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, Cormier sat down for a Q&A session with the fans.
Throwing disrespect towards the former champ-champ, a fan addressed Cormier as the ‘son of Jon Jones.’ The fan also asked DC’s opinion about how he feels now that UFC 309 would probably be Jones’ final appearance. In an interesting reply, Cormier heaped some words of praise towards his arch-rival.
DC said, “Eh, one of the greatest moments, he’s beaten a lot of guys, the amount of champions that Jon Jones has beaten over the course of his career is very impressive, the guy has been a champion for a long time, he’s done a great job and it will suck whenever he’s gone because the game is better when you have fighters like that in it.”
However, Cormier soon returned to his usual self, criticizing Jones and the several controversies he was involved in. In fact, Jones has truly proven himself against some quality opponents throughout his career. Unfortunately, his repeated run-ins with PED allegations have made some of his fans doubt his credibility.
Despite all the negatives, Jones will be remembered as one of the greatest MMA fighters of modern times. Unfortunately, after UFC 309, the heavyweight division might be in serious trouble.
Jon Jones’ Probable Retirement Might Pose Significant Problems
Jon Jones hinted at hanging his gloves by 2025. This means that the UFC 309 showdown will be the last time Jones will be seen fighting inside the octagon. However, this can be more of a problem for the heavyweight division. With Jones retiring, the belt will now be vacated. Despite Tom Aspinal being the Interim Champion, he will have to find yet another opponent to get his title match.

On the flip side, if Bones loses to Miocic, a more complicated situation would arise. This would mean that Miocic would be an inactive champion. With age against his side, Miocic is unsure of continuing in the UFC. Either way, Dana White will have to find an alternative opponent for Tom Aspinall. Thus, with significant complications coming up, it remains to be seen what happens next.
