Derrick Lewis made social media go crazy on Saturday night with one of the most insane knockouts of the year. During his bout with Curtis Blaydes in the UFC Fight Night 185 main event, he delivered a crazy uppercut that knocked his opponent clean out.
Even after that punch, Lewis had a lot of people upset that he punched Blaydes twice after it was clear that he was knocked out.
Blaydes would be down for a bit, but eventually got up and was able to walk out of the Octagon on his own power.
Lewis defended his decision after the match, via MMA Junkie:
“I can’t just turn the switch off just like that,” Lewis told reporters, including MMA Junkie, post-fight. “Some fighters can do that, but I can’t do it. I have to wait until the referee pulled me off because you never know what could happen. Anything could happen. He could’ve turned into (The) Undertaker and stood straight up and eat all those shots. You never know. You go until the referee says, ‘Chill out.’”
