American boxer Anthony David Benavidez is the current interim champion and a two-time WBC super middleweight champion. He won the interim championship in 2022 after holding the belt from 2017 to 2018 and again from 2019 to 2020.
At 20 years, eight months, three weeks, and one day old, Benavidez won his first title, making him the youngest super middleweight champion in history.
David Benavidez defeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk, the previous champion, to make an exciting debut in the light heavyweight class. He won the WBC interim light heavyweight title due to the victory. He was also the youngest WBC super middleweight champion to win the title twice. Dana White, the CEO of the UFC, is one guy who would not be shocked by his ascension.
Dana White Shares A Picture Of Teen David Benavidez
Benavidez and UFC president Dana White initially crossed paths when the boxer was 13 years old. Even then, the boxer was full of confidence, declaring that he would one day be a world champion.
After Benavidez’s latest victory, White shared this anecdote on Instagram, citing these comments as resonating with him. With his arm around White, a very youthful and indistinguishable Benavidez is seen in the Instagram story.
“I met @benavidez300 when he was 13 and he told me he would be a world champion. Love this kind of Sh*t. #manifesting.”
David Benavidez indeed stayed true to his words. On June 15, Benavidez vs. Gvozdyk took place at Las Vegas, Nevada’s MGM Grand Garden Arena. In the main event match, Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-2) and David Benavidez (29-0) faced off.

David Benavidez defeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk unanimously after twelve rounds in a competent but unspectacular transition to the light heavyweight class.
Judges gave Benavidez the following scores: 116–112, 117–111, and 119–109.
Against the 37-year-old Gvozdyk (20-2, 16 KO), Benavidez (29-0, 24 KO) appeared to be in complete control at first, but as the rounds went on, he did appear to tire, which is unusual for him in previous fights.
