Let’s start with a simple question: what makes sports great and attracts fans to stand in line just to watch the game? There are many answers to this, but the most important one is rivalry. If you remove the rivalry between teams or athletes, the following would be far less. The best example of this is Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov. If there had been no rivalry between them, it would have taken the UFC more years to reach this level. Similarly, there’s another rivalry between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones.
It’s so intense that, even after so many years, DC still hates Jones. Fans saw this recently on Kamaru Usman’s podcast, where DC threatened to leave the show after there was praise for ‘Bones.’
The conversation went like this, Usman said, “Jon is at the level where Conor [McGregor] is at to choose what he wants to do.” To which DC replied. “I thought you was about to say he was on the level of Michael Jordan and I was about to leave.” After Usman agreed that he truly believes Jones is on MJ’s level, this grew Daniel Cormier’s frustration, and he said, “I’m about to leave. You want this interview to be over? Do you just want to be done?”
Why Does Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones Hate Each Other?
For new fans, the beef between DC and Jones started back in 2014. Both were at the height of their careers, and their animosity grew from there. To this day, every time Jones steps into the cage, the two exchange verbal jabs and even flip each other the bird.
They’ve faced off twice in the octagon: Jones won their first fight, while the second ended in a no-contest Jones tested positive for a turinabol metabolite. These bouts only fueled the rivalry further. So, it’s no surprise that DC felt insulted when his rival was referred to as the Michael Jordan of MMA.

While some of it seems lighthearted what happened at the P4P podcast, the rivalry runs so deep that DC would have walked away from the show.
