A social media battle has erupted between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, as Jones openly shares his future intentions in the Octagon. His sights are set on a potential fight with Alex Pereira, bypassing the interim champion. Jones explained that Pereira is the only opponent on the roster who would offer financial and legacy value. Yet UFC legend Daniel Cormier suspects Jones may have an ulterior motive behind this preference.
Cormier argued that ‘Bones’ should face Aspinall, highlighting how legendary athletes often take on rising stars. He suggested Jones prefers a fight with ‘Poatan’ for a stylistic advantage, as Jones could exploit Pereira’s weaker takedown defense. In a recent YouTube video, Cormier explained,
“He would just wrestle him. So, yes, financially it would make sense, and it would be much less risky because of that glaring hole in the matchup. I don’t know if Alex Pereira can defend takedowns against the best guys. He’s wrestling Glover; I’m sure Glover’s teaching him how to defend takedowns.”
Additionally, ‘DC’ also noted that Jon Jones likely prefers a matchup with Alex Pereira because it’s far less risky than facing Tom Aspinall. However, after Jones pointed out Aspinall’s stats, the Englishman responded with a video showcasing his dominance.
