Jon Jones facing Tom Aspinall is a debate that is raging in the UFC at the moment. Aspinall, who has long been crowned the UFC heavyweight interim champion, has been waiting for a title shot for a long time. Unfortunately, ‘Bones’ never looked interested and kept delaying the match for a long time. Recently, the UFC heavyweight champion claimed that he would need a $30 million paycheck to fight Aspinall. However, Daniel Cormier thinks otherwise.
Jon Jones’ former rival opined that Dana White might not be eager to provide a $30 million paycheck to Jones. This was because Jones might not be able to bring in a huge crowd to increase UFC’s gate. DC further brought in the example of Conor McGregor to explain the situation.
“Conor makes $22 million at the gate, Conor has sponsorships, Conor definitely sells a million and a half, two million pay-per-views. You can almost understand Conor McGregor saying, ‘Give me the $30 million’ and why it might happen. I don’t know if [Jon] Jones does that,” said the former champ champ.
Surely, Conor McGregor has always been a huge crowd-puller for the UFC. His name is associated with some of the biggest UFC gates in UFC history. Meanwhile, the UFC head honcho has recently provided a definitive take on the Jon Jones scenario.
Dana White Ends Jon Jones’ Speculation
The UFC world wanted to see the unification of the interim and the undisputed belts on the heavyweight front. And despite the continued reluctance from Jon Jones, Dana White finally had some good news for the fans. In a recent episode of First Take, White was asked to name one match that he desperately wanted to make in 2025.
“It would be Aspinall vs Jones… what my job is, is to give the fans what they want. That’s what the fans want,” said White.

While this was an utterly significant statement from the UFC head honcho, Jon Jones still doesn’t seem all in on the subject. Thus, it will be interesting to see whether the much-awaited bout is finally made official. Even if the two UFC stalwarts face off against each other, it is unlikely that Jon Jones will get his $30 million wish granted.
