In any sport, upsets are part of the game, and the UFC has seen plenty of them. Speaking of upsets, when Belal Muhammad defeated Leon Edwards and clinched the title from him, it was a major shock. Many couldn’t believe that Edwards, who had beaten Kamaru Usman twice and defended his title against Colby Covington, suffered such a dominant loss. After being out since then, Edwards is set to make his comeback. Daniel Cormier recently discussed Edwards and defended his loss.
In the latest episode of Good Guy Bad Guy, Chael Sonnen and Daniel Cormier discussed Rocky’s return and agreed that Edwards is being written off too quickly. They mentioned that the Brit appeared visibly tired in his recent fight with Muhammad and wasn’t the same fighter who faced Usman.
DC suggested the early morning timing of UFC 304, held at 5:00 a.m. local time, played a big role. He emphasized how challenging it is for fighters to adjust to such unusual timing and how it’s hard to fully prepare for it.
He said, “Manchester, it was early man, it’s 5 a.m. by the time these guys are walking to the octagon. It’s not good, it’s hard. It doesn’t matter how long you try to prepare yourself for that.”
Subsequently, he proposed a potential matchup between Edwards and Jack Della Maddalena for his return, which is scheduled for March.
Chael Sonnen Suggests Leon Edwards To Fight Rakhmonov vs. Garry Loser
While DC recommended Maddalena for Edwards, Sonnen offered a different perspective. He believes a fight between Rakhmonov and Garry would help sort out the title picture. Meanwhile, Sonnen argued that the loser would still remain one of the most dangerous contenders in the division so he could fight Edwards next.

He said, “I think the loser of Ian Garry Rakhmonov draws in to Leon. That’s what I think…the rankings will support it, you’ve got two guys coming off a loss, two meaningful guys you could feature.”
Indeed, it will be interesting to see who Leon Edwards faces next, considering his dominance in the division except for the Muhammad fight. A big win upon his return will undoubtedly secure him another title shot.
