There are only a select few who are able to realize their dream of being a champion and touch the UFC gold. Then there are some who just dominate their opponents till the absolute and become legends in the company. Former Welterweight champion was one of those guys. Usman had one of the most dominant runs in UFC history. He beat up every possible contender that UFC put across him. Up till now there were only debates on whether Usman is the GOAT of his division or not. As it stands Usman got his flowers from possibly the most important person in the entire company.
UFC President Dana White approves of Kamaru Usman as the GOAT of the welterweight division
In a recent podcast episode with Usman and Henry Cejudo Dana White talked about everything MMA. Seems like White made it clear that he thinks Usman is the undisputed welterweight GOAT. Former UFC fighter and title challenger Chael Sonnen pressed on the fact how important Dana White’s approval for Kamaru’s legacy. Sonnen said,
Once we hear Dana say it. In most situations like this he never does. But if he does its no different than when we’re sitting around and predicting who the number one contender is or who’s going to fight? Or what date they’re going to fight at. Like we argue and we go back and forth. And we talk about what should be and then Dana gives an announcement and that’s it. We don’t have to talk about anymore its settled right? What Dana said today you cannot deny it. You cannot deny that Usman is the Welterweight GOAT.
Chael Sonnen made it clear that Usman getting the seal of approval of Dana White does wonder for his case of being the Welterweight GOAT. Usman was pound-for-pound number one fighter in the UFC for a very long time and the multiple-time world champion will rightfully acquire his place in the UFC Hall of fame. But Dana’s comments did raise some debates and disagreements. Many were referring to Canadian great George Saint-Pierre. GSP competed and won a total of more than ten title fights. He’s often considered one of the absolute best fighters of all time.
GSP has beaten every opponent that UFC has put across him in the Octagon. The man is the definition of elite as he’s quite proficient in every department whether its striking or grappling. It’ll be interesting to see what the Canadian has to say on Dana White’s latest claims of Usman being the greatest in the division. Kamaru still got some of his fights left at the top of the division in the UFC.
