Rivalries run deep, and loyalties shift fast in the world of combat sports. Dana White’s UFC 306 is set to go head-to-head against Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga event. And Oscar De La Hoya, the boxing legend turned promoter and Dana White’s fierce rival has surprisingly chosen him over his own sport.
De La Hoya, known for his sharp tongue, has made a surprising announcement. He’s ditching the glitz of boxing for the grit of the octagon. The Golden Boy confirmed that he will be heading to UFC 306.
“Canelo is fighting Berlanga, another snoozefest. They’re trying to sell a PPV for $90 at a $500 minimum in person. It’s just robbery at this point to pay for another lame Canelo that always goes the distance against a sub-par opponent…I’ll actually be attending the UFC event at Sphere instead,” said De La Hoya via Instagram.
He and Dana White have a long history of rivalry. These two have traded more verbal jabs than most fighters do in the ring. De La Hoya’s extending an olive branch and it is unclear whether White will reciprocate.
De La Hoya’s choice speaks volumes. He’s picking the new kid on the block over the sport that made him famous. The reason he cited was high PPV rates for a fight that definitely will go the distance. So, is it a strategic move or just a case of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend“?

De La Hoya recently spilled the beans on the origin of their beef. Apparently, it all started when Oscar decided to dip his toes into the MMA pool. He claimed that Dana White saw this as a threat and tried to “bury” him.
Oscar De La Hoya went full throttle, bringing up some of White’s past controversies. He even dragged White’s mother into the mix, referencing her unflattering book about her son. It seems that the beef between Dana White and Oscar De La Hoya will not be over anytime soon.
